Abertis Telecom and the Main Spanish Mobile Operators Jointly Trial Irdeto Mobile Broadcast Content Security System in First DVB-H Simulcrypt Trials
BARCELONA, SPAIN -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 14, 2007 -- (3GSM) -- Irdeto, a world leader in content security for digital TV, IPTV and mobile and a subsidiary of the multinational media group Naspers (NASDAQ: NPSN) (JSE: NPN), today announced the successful conclusion of laboratory trials of the Irdeto Mobile Broadcast conditional access system with Abertis Telecom, the leading Spanish group in telecommunications infrastructure and services.

Irdeto was among several security vendors included in a joint trial with Abertis Telecom and the main Spanish mobile operators who are evaluating the various DVB-H platforms available for the implementation of Mobile TV services. The government in Spain will make 1 frequency available in the national multiplex for DVB-H transmission and the trial participants are evaluating how to offer their services on such a common network, as provided by Abertis.

The Spanish trial has the distinction of being the first successful test of the simulcrypting of multiple mobile conditional access systems. In addition to Irdeto's system, another mobile CA system was also connected to the Thomson broadcast platform used in the trial, proving the robustness of DVB's Open Security Framework specification for mobile broadcasting.

Irdeto developed the technology for encryption of mobile TV broadcasts based on more than a decade of experience in protecting content for more than 300 digital satellite, cable, terrestrial and IPTV operators worldwide. Irdeto's first mobile TV customer, South Korea's TU Media Corp., launched its service in May of 2005 and now has more than one million paying subscribers and more than 30 manufacturers making handsets and other mobile devices for the service. Since then, Irdeto has provided security to a number of other Mobile TV services, including Germany's Watcha TV (T-DMB) and South Africa's DStv Mobile (DVB-H). Irdeto also offers OMA DRM 1.0 and 2.0 technology to mobile operators and handset manufacturers.

"Our extensive experience in mobile TV deployments and our commitment to multiple standards like DMB, DVB-H and MediaFLO have made us the ideal partner for projects like this one," said Graham Kill, Irdeto's CEO. "Combined with our more than 90 mobile TV device integrations with leading manufacturers, operators who choose Irdeto know they will be able to launch exciting and profitable new products to their customers ahead of their competition."

Irdeto is exhibiting at 3GSM in Hall 2 at Stand 2H33.
