Penske Logistics Selected as "Lead Logistics Provider" and Schenker Deutschland AG as "Preferred Carrier"
BERLIN--(Marketwire - August 06, 2007) - Bombardier Transportation has revealed today its new approach to supply chain management and logistics across all of its European production facilities. Penske Logistics has been selected as "Lead Logistics Provider" and Schenker Deutschland AG as "Preferred Carrier" to support Bombardier Transportation in its operations as world leader in the field of rail transportation.
This re-orientation is designed to optimize and standardize all supply chain and logistics processes, as well as to increase supply chain transparency. The central co-ordination of all logistics processes by Penske Logistics will also create a uniform and simplified invoicing system. For Bombardier, this will result in improved efficiency, a reduction in the number of shipments, simplified internal transportation, as well as a more transparent logistics process.
Under the terms of the agreement between Bombardier Transportation and Penske Logistics, Penske will assume the lead responsibility for logistics planning and co-ordination, as well as the management of all transportation and carriers. Penske will manage these operations from its European headquarters in the Netherlands. In addition, Penske's role as Lead Logistics Provider includes the selection of all carriers and the negotiation of contractual terms.
Bombardier has appointed Schenker Deutschland AG as its "Preferred Carrier" for transportation, giving Schenker the opportunity to offer its support to Bombardier for all transportation services.
Erik van Egmond, Managing Director of Penske Logistics Europe explained: "As a world-wide logistics company with far-reaching experiences in Lead Logistics services, Penske Logistics is an ideal partner for Bombardier. By providing a central initiating and co-ordination point for the entire supply chain and logistics process, we create a transparent and efficient supply chain, generating substantial cost savings for Bombardier as a result".
Dr. Bernd-Rudiger Pahnke, Member of the Schenker Deutschland AG Board responsible for logistics added: "In selecting Schenker as its "Preferred carrier", Bombardier will benefit from our extensive related experience as Germany's leading service provider in the field of integrated logistics in the automobile industry, as well gaining access to Schenker's unique local network of approximately 700 European locations".
Bombardier intends to implement these arrangements with Penske Logistics and Schenker by the beginning of next year. "With Penske Logistics and Schenker, we have competent and highly efficient partners on our side, who can help us achieve our logistics goals on the European market," said Pierre Attendu, Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer, Bombardier Transportation.
