The UK based automatic transmission specialist Antonov has received the IDTechEx Electric Vehicles Land Sea Air ‘Technology Award’ presented for the most significant EV technical development over the past two years. Unlike other awards these encompass all land, sea and air electric vehicles, concentrating on technical breakthroughs worldwide.

The technology award recognises company development and success in the field of electric vehicle component or material development. Antonov’s innovative multispeed gearbox has been developed to increase the performance and range of electric and hybrid vehicles. The awards were judged by Dr Peter Harrop, chairman IDTechEx, Dr Zafer Sahinoglu, senior principal member research staff, Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs, and Dr Martin Maerz, head of power electronics, Fraunhofer IISB.

Dr Peter Harrop commented: “Antonov’s high efficiency transmission was deemed to be very innovative with impressive features and real benefits.”

Jos Haag chief executive of Antonov commented: “We’re delighted to receive this award in recognition of our efforts to develop a high efficiency gearbox specifically for electric vehicles. Our technical team has done an excellent job in meeting the needs of our OEM customers for a significant 15 per cent improvement in electric vehicle powertrain efficiency.”
