.Longest experience of industrial production of polystyrene
•Cost-efficient production by Verbund in Ludwigshafen
•Focus on streamlined GPPS product range

BASF SE will be offering its customers in Europe GPPS (general purpose polystyrene) from its production facility in Ludwigshafen.

As well as utilizing it for its own needs – polystyrene is used for example for manufacturing Neopor® and Styrodur® – a sufficient quantity is now available following the expiry of contractual obligations for it to be supplied to customers. “BASF was the first company to begin industrial manufacturing of polystyrene. This wealth of experience guarantees that we will be a reliable partner to our customers,” says Giorgio Greening, head of BASF’s global styrene foams business unit.

The range is focused on the well-known crystal-clear products polystyrene GPPS 158K and GPPS 168N. This means that, as well as the proven and very good processing properties, BASF is also able to guarantee a high level of reliability and quality consistency.

About polystyrene
The plastic polystyrene (PS) is a standard plastic from BASF’s styrene plastics range. It is used in the packaging industry, for the internal lining of refrigerators, and as a casing material for numerous domestic and office products. Within BASF, polystyrene is processed further to create insulation products: these include the green foam panels Styrodur® (XPS: extruded polystyrene) and the extrusion-based foam precursors Neopor® and Styropor® (EPS: expandable polystyrene).
