Fuji Rock this year plays host to a groundbreaking new initiative to defeat global warming. The Global Cool Foundation, founded by Dan Morrell, a pioneer in programmes aimed at improving the environment, today launched a campaign that through small individual pledges by its members aims to make a massive change to the world we live in. The objective of the campaign is to push back the climatic tipping point, by reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 10 billion tons over the next ten years.

Fuji Rock is a carbon neutral festival. All carbon dioxide created during the production of the three-day festival is offset through a number of initiatives such as technology offset projects including wind farms and solar power and the recreation of long term natural forests. Global Cool's objective is to get 1 billion people to save just one ton of Carbon Dioxide per year - this can be done through simply switching electrical appliances off and not leaving them on standby, and by turning off mobile phone chargers when they are not being used.

Global Cool launched its campaign at 11am, on Friday 28th July on the Green Stage at Fuji Rock, when Dan Morrell was joined on-stage by Masa Hidaka OBE, Founder of Fuji Rock, as well as Kate Bosworth and Orlando Bloom, just two of the many A-list celebrities who have pledged their support to the cause.

As well as encouraging people to be more efficient and reduce the amount of CO2 they produce, Global Cool also wants people to offset the remainder of their unavoidable emissions. At Fuji Rock, a single person will be chosen to pledge to offset the first ton of carbon via the Global Cool website. The campaign aims to recruit people to join Global Cool by asking them to commit to the cause, which in turn will reward members with access to exclusive high quality filmed content via its website.

Dan Morrell, Founder of Global Cool commented: "As a truly Carbon Neutral event, Fuji Rock is the ideal place to start spreading the Global Cool message. We are aiming to achieve something quite phenomenal through this project - individuals coming together to make a difference to the future of the planet. Over the next few months we have a lot of very strong messages and exciting announcements to make, which we really feel will give people compelling reasons to join Global Cool."

Full details of the Global Cool initiative will be made available at the global launch later in the year.
