Asian stocks fell to a more than one-week low after China curbed bank lending and the U.S. economy expanded at the slowest pace in four years.

Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd.
shares surged as much as threefold on their first day of trading in Shanghai, buoyed by a rally that's made the country's stock market the most expensive in Asia.
China's biggest aluminum maker, known as Chalco, rose as high as 20.07 yuan from its issue price of 6.6 yuan. Chalco, with shares traded in Hong Kong and New York, issued yuan- currency stock to buy out two local units.

The dollar was stuck near a record low against the euro on Monday, getting little reprieve from a steady three-month slide on expectations for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates later in the year.

target of a A$9.95 billion ($8.2 billion) takeover, said first-half profit jumped 70 percent after the world's largest explosives maker increased sales to mining companies.
Net income rose to a record A$221.4 million, or 62.2 cents a share, in the six months ended March 31, from A$130.4 million, or 41.4 cents a share, a year earlier, the Melbourne-based company said today in a statement.

ABN AMRO bank

ING verhoogt koersdoel naar EUR 47. Naar aanleiding van ons bezoek aan de AVA van Vopak, hebben wij een goed e verwachting in de toekomst van Vopak. De wereldspeler in opslag en de LNG en CO-2 opslag zal ook hun steentje bijdrage en dan zien wij de koers voorbij de EUR 50 gaan.
Sterk management , dus onze "code", eerst de vent en dan de tent, is ook bij Vopak van toepassing.

In Duitsland zijn de detailhandelsverkopen in maart met 0,7% gedaald. Er was juist een stijging verwacht. Dus kan dit de beurzen vandaag drukken in Europa.

Turkey's lira,
fell as much as 4 percent against the dollar after the military threatened to block the government's presidential candidate because of his Islamist past.
The lira was at 1.3882 to the dollar at 8:51 a.m., the start of trading in Istanbul today. The slide came after hundreds of thousands of people rallied in Istanbul yesterday to protest the candidacy of Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, who came within 10 votes of winning the presidency in a parliamentary ballot April 27. He pledged to stand again in a second round of voting May 2.

Eni SpA,
Europe's fourth-largest oil company, agreed to buy Dominion Resources Inc.'s exploration and production assets in the Gulf of Mexico for $4.8 billion, to triple its output from the region.
The purchase will boost Eni's production in the Gulf to 110,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day by the second half of 2007, from 36,000 barrels a day now, the Rome-based company said in a statement today. It's Eni's biggest acquisition since the $5.6 billion takeover of the U.K.'s Lasmo Plc in 2000.

European business,
and consumer confidence stayed close to a six-year high this month, indicating the euro-area economy is withstanding increased oil prices and borrowing costs as well as the slowdown in the U.S.
An index of sentiment among executives and consumers in the euro region slipped to 111.0 from a revised 111.1 in March, the European Commission in Brussels said today. Inflation eased to 1.8 percent in April from 1.9 percent, staying below the European Central Bank's 2 percent limit for an eighth month, according to a separate report.

Japan's Finance Minister Koji Omi said,
he isn't concerned about the pace of U.S. growth, after a report showed the world's largest economy expanded at the slowest rate in four years.
The U.S. slowdown ``isn't very serious, but I will watch the situation carefully,'' Omi said today in response to questions in Paris, where he is meeting French Finance Minister Thierry Breton. Japan's economy, the world's second biggest, isn't solely driven by exports, he said.

The London headquarters of HSBC Holdings Plc, Europe's largest bank by market value, was bought by Spanish real estate company Metrovacesa SA for 1.09 billion pounds ($2.2 billion), a record for a U.K. building.
HSBC will remain in the 45-story tower at 8 Canada Square, in the Canary Wharf business district, according to a statement today. About 8,000 people work in the building, which was designed by Norman Foster and has 1.1 million square feet of space.

De financiering van de overname/bieding ABN AMRO lijkt goed op te schieten.

Deutsche Boerse AG,
operator of the Frankfurt stock exchange, plans to buy International Securities Exchange Holdings Inc., the second-largest U.S. options market, for about $2.8 billion in cash.
The price amounts to $67.50 per ISE share, said Deutsche Boerse, part-owner of the Eurex AG derivatives market, in a statement today. That's 48 percent more than ISE's closing price of $45.72 on April 27. ISE, in a separate statement, said the final terms are still being negotiated.
