U.S. stocks rose in volatile trading on Wednesday as a 3 percent rise in oil prices lifted energy shares while strong profits from Boeing Co. countered market concerns about merger financing.

on Wednesday said its quarterly profit rose 73 percent from a year earlier, zooming past expectations on strong Macintosh computer sales and helping to send its shares up nearly 10 percent.

Net income climbed to a record 15.12 billion rupees ($375 million) under U.S. accounting rules in the quarter ended June 30 from 7.55 billion rupees a year earlier, the New Delhi-based company said in a statement today. Sales rose 53 percent to 59.05 billion rupees.

Net income in the three months ended June rose to 607 million pounds ($1.25 billion), or 7.2 pence a share, from 464 million pounds, or 5.5 pence, a year earlier, London-based BT said today in a statement. Profit in the period included a tax credit of 119 million pounds.

AstraZeneca Plc,
the U.K. drugmaker that bought MedImmune Inc. for $15.2 billion, said second-quarter profit fell 11 percent on costs related to the acquisition.
Net income was $1.43 billion, or 95 cents a share, compared with $1.6 billion, or $1.02, a year earlier, London-based AstraZeneca said today. Revenue increased 9.8 percent to $7.27 billion, the company said in an e-mailed statement.

Orders for U.S. durable goods
excluding transportation equipment unexpectedly dropped in June for a second month, casting doubt on forecasts that gains in business investment will keep the economy growing. Aside from airplanes and motor vehicles, demand for goods meant to last several years fell 0.5 percent, after a revised 0.2 percent drop in May, the Commerce Department said today in Washington.

In Amsterdam liggen veel fondsen gewoon in de "uitverkoop". Echt iets voor de "koopjeshagers".

Wall Street
en de andere beurzen maken zich zorgen over de Olie, er "zou" een tekort kunnen gaan komen. Ook over de hypotheken van de huizen in de VS worden zorgen gemaakt. Maar hebben de Nederlanders dan geen hoge hypoteheken? Die zijn ook op "twee-verdieners" afgestemd.
Olie wordt bewust geregisseerd door de speculanten en daar trappen de beleggers ook nog in. Toen de winter kwam, was het de kou, maar die kwam in Europa slechts beperkt en nu de vakantie die extra zou opslokken. Gingen die mensen dan nimmer met de auto naar hun werk, dagelijks! Nu gaan ze alleen met vakantie en liggen ze lekker in de zon, per saldo zal er minder gebruikt gaan worden, zo berekenen wij.
Waar al die zorgen dan voor?
Er moeten ups en downs komen op de beurzen, want daar wordt aan verdiend.
