Aug. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The global economic recovery is “well in place” and may accelerate as growth in developing nations counters a slowing pick up in Japan and the U.S., according to Templeton Asset Management Ltd.’s Mark Mobius.
The so-called BRIC markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China, as well as Turkey and South Africa, will drive the recovery, said Mobius, who predicted the bull-market rally in emerging markets in March 2009. The MSCI index of 21 developing nations has doubled since it bottomed out in March 2, 2009.

Reuters) - Private equity-owned Nielsen plans to raise up to $2.01 billion through an initial public offering, more than the $1.75 billion it was originally aiming for, it said in a U.S. regulatory filing on Monday.
Nielsen, the world's largest TV and consumer measurement company, was taken private in a $10 billion deal in 2006 by a group of six private equity firms -- Carlyle Group, Blackstone Group LP, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, Thomas H. Lee Partners, AlpInvest Partners and Hellman & Friedman.

Vedanta will buy between 40 and 51 percent of Cairn India from Cairn Energy (CNE.L), holder of a 62.4 percent stake, and will offer to buy up to 20 percent from other shareholders to give it a stake of between 51 and 60 percent. The deal would need the Indian government's approval. Also, state-run Oil & Natural Gas Corp (ONGC.BO) has a stake in nearly all of Cairn India operations.

Reuters) - Dell Inc plans to buy data storage company 3PAR Inc for $1.15 billion in cash, expanding its offering of data center products to compete with rivals like IBM. Dell said it would pay $18 a share for 3PAR, an 87 percent premium over Friday's closing price. 3PAR provides storage products that use virtualization technology, which allows companies to boost efficiency.

Switzerland (Reuters) - Swiss drugmaker Novartis AG (NOVN.VX) moved another step closer to securing its buyout of Alcon (ACL.N) after shareholders of the U.S. eye care group elected Novartis-nominated directors to the Alcon board.
In addition, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission on Monday approved the deal after requiring that Novartis sell to Bausch & Lomb an injectable eye care drug used in cataract surgery. Novartis is seeking to buy the remaining 23 percent of Alcon after exercising an option earlier this year to buy Nestle's majority stake, which will bring its holding in Alcon to 77 percent.

De huidige onzekerheid is een belemmering voor velen, maar onze ervaring is, vroeg of laat breekt de zon altijd weer door. Er zijn tekenen van herstel en de ene sector zal het eerder zijn. Aug. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc., the world’s largest fertilizer producer by market value, said its board rejected an unsolicited takeover proposal from BHP Billiton Ltd. for $130 a share in cash. “The Potash Corp. Board of Directors unanimously believes that the BHP Billiton proposal substantially undervalues Potash Corp. and fails to reflect both the value of our premier position in a strategically vital industry and our unparalleled future growth prospects,” Chairman Dallas Howe said today in a statement. Potash Corp. produces fertilizer, industrial and animal feed products. Consolidation in the fertilizer industry is increasing as the population grows, boosting the need for food. The global population will swell to 9.1 billion in 2050 from 6.8 billion, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization said in September.

Aug. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Work began on fewer homes than forecast in July and building permits fell to the lowest level in more than a year, indicating little evidence of a rebound in U.S. construction following an expired tax credit. Housing starts totaled 546,000 at an annual rate last month, less than the 560,000 median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg News and up 1.7 percent from June, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. Building permits dropped 3.1 percent to a 565,000 pace.

Pharming provides update on outstanding shares
Leiden, The Netherlands, August 17, 2010. Biotech company Pharming Group NV ("Pharming") (NYSE Euronext: PHARM) today announced that its current number of outstanding shares has increased from 332,865,044 at August 5, 2010 to 341,243,169 as per today. The increase of 8,378,125 shares stems from:
4,166,667 shares issued under the Standby Equity Distribution Agreement ("SEDA") with YA Global Master SPV LTD ("YA Global") for a cash consideration of €750,000. As per today, approximately €22.7 million remains available under the total €30.0 million SEDA facility with YA Global as entered into in 2009;
an aggregate number of 4,211,458 shares for the conversion of €0.5 million bonds at an exercise price of €0,12. This conversion relates to the €7.5 million January 2010 private bonds. As a result, the original nominal value of the bonds has decreased to €0.4 million today.
