Governor Masaaki Shirakawa and his board left the bank-loan facility at 30 trillion yen ($356 billion) after boosting it at an Aug. 30 emergency meeting, and kept open the possibility of more action. Policy makers held the benchmark overnight rate at 0.1 percent, where it’s been since December 2008, the bank said in Tokyo today.

Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) announced today that it will make a cash contribution of EUR 350 million, on September 7, 2010 to the Philips UK pension fund, as part of the Philips UK pension fund’s recovery plan. This contribution is a funding transaction and therefore has no impact on Philips’ earnings. The Trustees of Philips UK pension fund will use this contribution to purchase from Philips its entire equity stake in NXP.
The sale of NXP shares will lead to a EUR 140 million gain that Philips will report under Financial income in the third quarter of 2010.

LIFAN Project extended with second vehicle type
The progress which has been made with the TX-6 and which has been shown to high ranking officers of LIFAN in a meeting supported by videos and photographs, has been acknowledged and appreciated by LIFAN. The project to build in a TX-6 B-sample in the LIFAN 620 is currently underway and the car will be delivered in China in the coming months. LIFAN has now asked Antonov to build in a second transmission with preferably a majority of components sourced from final (Chinese) suppliers, into another LIFAN vehicle, a 1.8 litre SUV, for which the TX-6 is being considered a suitable solution as well. This project is planned for the beginning of 2011, when the Chinese components will be available, leading to C-sample level.

Air Products is offering $65.50 a share in cash, up from its $63.50 bid made in July, the Allentown, Pennsylvania-based industrial-gas company said in a statement yesterday. Air Products is asking investors at Airgas’s annual meeting on Sept. 15 to elect three director nominees and approve bylaw changes.

Reuters) - Midstream energy services provider Enterprise Products Partners LP (EPD.N) said it would buy Enterprise GP Holdings LP (EPE.N) for about $8.03 billion to reduce its capital costs and simplify its partnership structure.
Enterprise Holdings owns the general partner of, and limited partner interests in, Enterprise Products. Under the deal, Enterprise GP unitholders would receive 1.5 Enterprise Products common units in exchange for each Enterprise GP limited partner unit. The deal values Enterprise GP at about $57.68 share, a premium of 16 percent to the stock's Friday close.

"The SEC and other regulators are looking carefully at certain practices in this area to assess whether they violate existing rules against fraudulent or other improper behavior," Schapiro said in remarks to be delivered at the Economic Club of New York. Regulators were also looking at quote stuffing in connection with the mysterious May 6 flash crash, when the Dow Jones industrial average dropped dramatically before quickly recovering.

Reuters) - Japanese electronics maker Sony Corp said it would sell a factory in Spain making liquid crystal display TVs as part of its push to outsource more production and turn its struggling TV operations into a profit driver.
The maker of Bravia flat screen TVs said in a statement it would sell its facility in Barcelona that makes LCD TVs for Europe to Spain-based companies Ficosa International SA and COMSA EMTE SL for an undisclosed sum. Sony said it would outsource production of LCD TVs to a new manufacturing company to be established by Ficosa at the site for two years from completion of the transaction, underscoring its "asset-light" strategy for lowering its cost base.
