1.Onrust in Afrika doet beleggers in de VS wel twijfelen, maar houdt ze niet aan de zijlijn. Cijfers en retailers wisten ze daar toch tot daden over te halen. De Detail verkopen in januari j.l. stegen met 4,8% en dat was aanzienlijk meer dan analisten (2,7%) hadden verwacht.
De Dow +20 en de Nasdaq +4 punten op resp. 12.062 en 2.753 de dag uit.
Maar het optimisme neemt de overhand, steeds duidelijkere aanwijzingen dat de economie doortrekt in de VS.
Nu de export nog en een kleiner tekort.

In de Oostmarkt was de AU$ sterker, grondstoffen zullen gevraagd worden en daar is Australië rijk aan, maar Canada wordt nog steeds onderschat. Daar wijzen onze correspondenten uit Vancouver ook steeds op. Ook daar overnames.
En die zette vanmorgen de Oostmarkt juist hoger.

Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the world’s largest maker of luxury cars, expects “significant” sales increases in the first half of this year because of demand for new models, Chief Financial Officer Friedrich Eichiner said. “We see definite growth in emerging markets,” Eichiner told reporters today in Cape Town, South Africa. “Double-digit growth in China is expected, but also in countries like Brazil, Korea and in Russia there should be significant growth. We see the U.S. market coming back.” BMW, which also makes Mini and Rolls-Royce models, sold about 1.46 million vehicles last year and is targeting sales of more than 1.5 million units this year. Booming demand from China is likely to offset slowing gains in Europe, where several countries have been beset by debt crises, he said. Growth in Germany will be about 5 percent to 6 percent, Eichiner said.

Maar als SAS wel te koop komt te staan, wil Lufthansa wel. MADRID (AFN) - De Spaanse economie is vorig jaar met 0,1 procent gekrompen. Dat is de voorlopige schatting die de Spaanse centrale bank vrijdag naar buiten bracht. Eerder zei de Spaanse overheid een krimp van 0,3 procent te verwachten. In 2009 kromp de economie nog met 3,7 procent. Het minder sombere beeld voor 2010 is te danken aan een sterker dan verwachte groei in het vierde kwartaal. Volgens voorlopige gegevens groeide de Spaanse economie toen met 0,2 procent. De Spaanse regering probeert de groei te stimuleren door hervormingen en bezuinigingen. Spanje kampt met een werkloosheid van 20 procent. Dat is het hoogste percentage van alle ontwikkelde landen.

De regeringsleiders van de zeventien eurolanden willen dat het Europese noodfonds een grotere leencapaciteit krijgt en dat de gelden flexibeler kunnen worden ingezet. Daarmee ondersteunen ze nadrukkelijk de lijn die al door hun ministers van financiën is ingezet. Voor het eerst spreken de regeringsleiders zich vrijdag in Brussel hierover uit. Dit kan betekenen dat de lidstaten hun garanties aan dit fonds, het EFSF, moeten verhogen.

Reuters) - Tyson Foods Inc's quarterly earnings surged 86 percent as it sold beef and pork at much higher prices, sending its shares up 6.3 percent in premarket trading. First-quarter earnings at the world's largest meat company were $298 million, or 78 cents per share, compared with $160 million, or 42 cents, a year earlier. The results include an $11 million gain, or 3 cents a share, for an investment sale. Wall Street analysts, on average, had expected 62 cents, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Revenue for the quarter was $7.61 billion, while Wall Street expected $7.15 billion. "Our performance is due to on-going, sustainable operational improvements across all four segments," said Chief Executive Donnie Smith, "Our view of 2011 is basically the same as it was a few months ago. Beef and Pork are off to a great start, and their combined results in 2011 should be similar to 2010.

Copper was breaking records in London and New York, reaching $10,000 a metric ton (US$4.54/lb) for the first time, on speculation recovering economies will spur demand. Prices were further supported by news that Xstrata Plc, the world’s fourth largest copper producer, closed its copper operations at Mount Isa in Australia as a tropical cyclone Yasi plays havoc on Queensland’s mining operations. According to a Bloomberg article, orders to draw copper from inventories tracked by the London Metal Exchange (LME) jumped the most in more than three weeks. Copper has now tripled since 2008, with prices
surging 30% in 2010 as LME inventories made their first annual decline since 2004 (down 25%). According to Credit Agricole SA, demand for industrial-metals has been gaining since 2009's second half, and mining companies have failed to keep pace with demand because new reserves are harder to find and metal from ore is declining. And according to Barclays Capital, this situation could be exacerbated as copper supplies may lag behind demand by 822,000 tons this year, more than double last year's deficit. Given this tight supply situation, an analyst at RBS Global Banking & Markets is predicting that prices may
consolidate this year in a range from $9,500 to $10,500 a ton. He also notes, "Supportive underlying fundamentals will likely provide strong price support during periods of investor risk aversion" compared with other commodities". That said, copper for March delivery slipped 0.15 cent to US$4.5425/lb on the Comex after touching US$4.58. A BusinessWeek article attributed the slight decline to concerns that elevated prices may deter buyers and encourage substitution. A separate analyst notes that while
the US$10,000 per tonne price may have been a small increase from the prior day, it presents a psychological barrier that could result in some short-time price correction. That said, many analysts seem to agree that fundaments support more upside for copper. Canaccord Genuity’s top copper picks include: Augusta Resources; Equinox Minerals; Taseko Mines; and Quadra-FNX Mining. Attractive stocks include: Capstone Mining (CS); and Hana Mining (HMG), Teck Cominco (TCK.B), and Inmet Mining (IMN).

Reuters) - Network equipment maker Cisco Systems Inc plans to buy privately-held, digital video technology firm Inlet Technologies for $95 million, continuing to expand beyond its traditional routing and switching business.
Cisco said on Friday that it expects the deal to complete in the first half of 2011. Its offer includes cash and retention-based incentives, it said.

Wat lezen wij de laatste weken op Reuters/Bloomberg e.a. sites.
Sneeuwstormen houden huis in de VS, omzetten dalen e.a. negatieve berichten. Wil men dan betere cijfers dan december hebben? Dat zou toch niet realistisch zijn!
Welk bedrijven gaat personeel aannemen als je je omzetten niet haalt.
Simpel nadenken voorkomt teleurstellingen, wij hebben dat de afgelopen 50 jaar dat wij haast in het vak zitten wel geleerd.
Vaar je eigen koers, dan kun je goedkoop instappen, want als je met de stroom meevaart, koop je veelvuldig te duur in. Enkele dagen later is de prijs alweer terug(veelvuldig wel).
Systemen behalen de prijs en die misleiden heel veel beleggers, kijk naar de olieprijs vandaag, vanmiddag vroeg was 't nog duur tanken en nu goedkoper.

BRUSSEL (AFN) - De discussie op de EU-top over economische hervormingsplannen in de eurolanden verloopt moeizaam. Een gezamenlijk initiatief van de Duitse bondskanselier Angela Merkel en de Franse president Nicolas Sarkozy heeft bij een aantal lidstaten kwaad bloed gezet. Bronnen op de EU-top in Brussel hebben dat vrijdag gezegd. Merkel en Sarkozy willen dat de eurolanden die het beste presteren als voorbeeld gaan dienen voor de rest. Ze noemden geen details, maar de afgelopen dagen lekte uit dat Merkel denkt aan pensioenhervormingen, belastingharmonisering en het verbieden van automatische loonindexatie.
De Belgische premier Yves Leterme reageerde al voor de top sterk afwijzend op die plannen. Premier Mark Rutte is het ermee eens om het beleid van de sterkste eurolanden maatgevend te maken, maar ook hij wil dat het invullen van het beleid een nationale zaak blijft.

Het oude Desso
Het investeringsfonds Bencis koopt de Belgisch-Nederlandse tapijtfabrikant Desso. Bencis koopt Desso over van NPM Capital(1), de investeringsmaatschappij van de familie Fentener van Vlissingen. Die bezat sinds 4 jaar 77 procent van de aandelen - de rest zat in de handen van het management. In de nieuwe constructie blijft het management op post en in het bedrijf.
