Sanofi did not find any "major issues" in its review of Genzyme, but it may be "looking to adjust its last offer based on what it learned from its examination," the newspaper reported in its electronic edition. "The concern is that they may lower their offer -- pinning it to something they may or may not have found -- and at this point, anything below $74 (a share) would be a disappointment," one trader told Reuters. Amsterdam, 14 februari 2011 - Ahold heeft in de periode van 7 tot en met 11 februari 1.944.853 van haar gewone aandelen teruggekocht. De aandelen werden teruggekocht voor een gemiddelde prijs van € 9,8016 per aandeel voor een totaalbedrag van € 19,06 miljoen, in het kader van het programma voor de terugkoop van € 500 miljoen aan aandelen dat Ahold op 4 maart 2010 bekendmaakte. Tot op heden zijn in totaal 48.435.654 gewone aandelen teruggekocht voor een totaalbedrag van € 481,1 miljoen.

Dat meldde het Portugese statistiekbureau maandag op basis van een eerste schatting. Het afgelopen kwartaal was het eerste waarin de Portugese economie kromp, na drie opeenvolgende kwartalen met groei. Over heel 2010 gemeten nam het bruto binnenlands product (bbp) van Portugal met 1,4 procent toe. Een jaar eerder werd het bbp nog 2,5 procent kleiner, nadat de economische groei in 2008 volledig tot stilstand was gekomen. Economen verwachten dat de Portugese economie dit jaar opnieuw zal krimpen. De omvangrijke bezuinigingen waarmee de Portugese overheid het eigen tekort te lijf wil gaan, zetten waarschijnlijk een zware rem op de groei van de economie, waardoor er een nieuwe recessie kan ontstaan.

Feb. 14 (Bloomberg) -- EchoStar Corp., a provider of television set-top boxes and satellite services, said it agreed to buy Hughes Communications Inc. for about $1.32 billion. Hughes shareholders will receive $60.70 a share without interest, a 31 percent premium over its closing share price of $46.43 on Jan. 19, the companies said today in a statement.

In de AEX blijven wij ons verbazen over de prijsvorming van Aperam EUR 31,-- en KPN EUR 11,74 Haast 3 op 1 en Aperam geeft geen dividend en KPN wel over geheel 2010 80ct daar is in juli 2010 interim dividend van EUR 0,27 per aandeel betaald, slotdiv. 53 ct. Plus KPN zien wij als een kandidaat overname klant. Aperam is sinds kort op de beurs en er is voor ons nog veel onduidelijkheid over het rendement voor 2011 en verdere jaren.

Reuters) - Merger talks between top flight commodity group Louis Dreyfus and smaller Singaporean rival Olam (OLAM.SI) have failed, reviving speculation about the strategy of Dreyfus, a top flight commodities firm. "We parted amicably, and we will continue to pursue our independent futures," Olam chief executive Sunny Verghese said at a news conference on Monday.
Louis Dreyfus has been in a state of flux since chief executive Robert Louis-Dreyfus died in 2009. Talks with Olam were announced in September last year and Dreyfus has been reported to have held merger talks with other rivals, including Swiss-based Glencore International GLEN.UL. Louis Dreyfus, whose commodities arm generates about $35 billion in annual revenue, dominates the flow of agricultural commodities worldwide together with rivals Archer Daniels Midland (ADM.N), Bunge (BG.N), and Cargill CARG.UL.
