Reuters) - The Canadian government was hit by an unprecedented cyber attack from Chinese-based computers last month that penetrated two key economic ministries, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp reported on Wednesday. The CBC cited sources as saying the hackers broke into computer systems at the Finance Department and Treasury Board. Once the attack was detected, Internet access in both ministries was cut off. The Finance Department is preparing the federal budget, which will be delivered next month. The CBC said the hackers had apparently managed to take control of computers in the offices of senior government executives as part of a scheme to steal the passwords that unlock entire government data systems. A spokesman for Treasury Board Minister Stockwell Day said officials had detected an unauthorized attempt to access the ministry's computer networks.

Reuters) - BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA), France's biggest listed bank, said it had no appetite for acquisitions just yet after posting solid fourth-quarter results which soaked up a surprise charge on the value of its stake in AXA (AXAF.PA).
Shares of BNP were down 0.6 percent at 1109 GMT, underperforming the STOXX 600 Europe bank index .SX7P, after analysts said the bank's results were in line with expectations excluding the one-off 534 million euros ($723 million) charge. BNP saw 2010 revenues and profits rise on the back of the bank's strong retail banking operations and the integration of Belgium-focused crisis acquisition Fortis. The group raised its Fortis synergy target to 1.2 billion euros, from 900 million. For 2011, BNP expects a "slight decline" in loan-loss provisions in key European markets like France, Belgium and Italy as the risk environment improves, the bank said. Acquisitions are not a priority for now.

DTV Consultants zoeken tachtig 'pittige' testrijders uit de provincies Noord- en Zuid-Holland die mee willen werken aan een proef met het snelheidsslot.
De samenwerkende bedrijven testen als eerste het 'snelheidsslot' in Nederland. Dit systeem grijpt in zodra automobilisten boven de maximumsnelheid komen. Het snelheidsslot wordt in de toekomst mogelijk ingezet als maatregel tegen notoire snelheidsovertreders.
De proef
Het snelheidsslot is een systeem dat in de auto wordt ingebouwd. De praktijkproef vindt plaats in de provincies Noord- en Zuid-Holland en moet uitwijzen of het systeem werkt en of het invoerbaar is. De proef duurt drie maanden. De gegevens die per deelnemer worden verzameld, blijven anoniem.
Gezocht
Om het snelheidsslot goed te kunnen testen, zoekt Oranjewoud automobilisten die geregeld 'in de clinch' liggen met de maximumsnelheid. De automobilisten moeten uit de betreffende regio komen en beschikken over een eigen auto. Aanmelden kan tot uiterlijk 23 maart 2011 op www.automobilistmetpit.nl. Deelnemers die de proef afronden, krijgen een beloning van 300 euro.

Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Singapore raised its inflation and export forecasts for 2011 after the economy expanded at a record pace last year, sustaining pressure on the central bank to allow greater currency appreciation.
Consumer prices may climb as much as 4 percent this year while exports may rise 10 percent, the trade ministry said today. The economy expanded a revised 14.5 percent in 2010, with gross domestic product growing an annualized 3.9 percent in the three months to Dec. 31 from the previous quarter, it said.
Singapore may tighten monetary policy further even as the government forecasts growth will slow in 2011 to less than half of last year’s pace.
