China’s non-manufacturing industries expanded at the slowest pace in four months in June, adding to concerns that efforts to tame inflation are curbing growth in the world’s second-biggest economy. A purchasing managers’ index dropped to 57 from 61.9 in May, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing said on its website yesterday. A reading above 50 indicates an expansion. China’s economic growth target for this year will be “very challenging” to achieve, Vice Premier Wang Qishan said yesterday.

Reuters) - Vast deposits of rare earth minerals, crucial in making high-tech electronics products, have been found on the floor of the Pacific Ocean and can be readily extracted, Japanese scientists said on Monday."The deposits have a heavy concentration of rare earths. Just one square kilometer (0.4 square mile) of deposits will be able to provide one-fifth of the current global annual consumption," said Yasuhiro Kato, an associate professor of earth science at the University of Tokyo.The discovery was made by a team led by Kato and including researchers from the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology.They found the minerals in sea mud extracted from depths of 3,500 to 6,000 meters (11,500-20,000 ft) below the ocean surface at 78 locations. One-third of the sites yielded rich contents of rare earths and the metal yttrium, Kato said in a telephone interview.The deposits are in international waters in an area stretching east and west of Hawaii, as well as east of Tahiti in French Polynesia, he said.

Maar er is niet voldoende dus zal de vraag en aanbod een draai geven, ten gunste van het fysieke en de prijs zal dan hoger gaan. Zilver wordt steeds meer verbruike en gebruikt in diversen producten, o.a. zonnecellen en technische apparaten, teveel om op te noemen. En er komt steeds minder uit de grond + de kosten worden steeds hoger om zilver naar boven te halen.

WASHINGTON (AFN) - Het Internationaal Monetair Fonds (IMF) is verheugd over het besluit van de ministers van Financiën van de eurolanden om het licht op groen te zetten voor een noodlening van 12 miljard euro aan Griekenland. Dat heeft een woordvoerster zaterdagavond laten weten. Het IMF moet zelf ook nog formeel instemmen met de lening, de vijfde en laatste van een vorig jaar overeengekomen steunpakket ter waarde van 110 miljard euro. Dat gebeurt naar verwachting vrijdag.

So now it's time for short sellers of Chinese stocks listed in North America to shift their attention thousands of miles away to Hong Kong.Short-selling investor-bloggers have made enough noise, and cash, by shorting the shares of New York and Toronto-listed Chinese companies and issuing reports accusing them of fraud that the charges for borrowing shares in these companies has soared. And that can make the strategy's costs prohibitive.They have also picked off the low-hanging fruit - the companies, most of which came to the U.S. market through reverse takeovers (RTOs), that have committed the most obvious accounting shenanigans.There is therefore an increasing danger the short sellers will overstep by accusing healthy Chinese entities in the U.S. of misbehaving and face legal action from the companies or the authorities as a result."This is no longer an easy game. We're moving on from the Chinese RTOs. They've been beaten to smithereens by this point. The game is getting harder and no longer in the U.S., but rather is moving to Hong Kong," said John Hempton, a short seller of Chinese companies as the chief investment officer of Sydney, Australia-based Bronte Capital Management.

Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, announces today that it has completed the acquisition of Vitatene S.A.U., based in León (Spain), a producer of natural carotenoids. The acquisition was announced on 10 May 2011. The acquisition of Vitatene allows DSM to strengthen the natural carotenoids offerings of its nutrition business as consumer demand for natural products continues to grow. Michelmore, a 58-year-old Australian, joined China’s commodity drive in June 2009 after he sold most of the mines he ran at Melbourne-based OZ Minerals Ltd. (OZL) to China Minmetals Group, the nation’s biggest state-owned metals trader. He’s now the most senior foreigner working at a state-owned listed mining company after joining Hong Kong-based Minmetals Resources Ltd.
