Disk-Based Green Storage and Archiving Solutions Deliver up to 25 X Improvement on Power Consumption for Film & TV Industry.
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS--(Marketwire - September 06, 2007) - Nexsan Technologies, the leader in energy saving storage systems, today announced it will feature the field-proven green credentials -- including up to 25 times better power consumption than competitive solutions -- of its family of storage and archiving products at the IBC Exhibition being held at the RAI Conference Centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands, 7th -11th September 2007, Stand 7.901. Widely used by the film and TV industry, Nexsan has installed more than 50 petabytes of green storage since 2001.

The company's advanced green storage solutions are architected from the ground up to provide superior storage performance along with the industry's highest energy efficiency. For example, Nexsan solutions with AutoMAID(TM) (Automatic Massive Array of Idle Disks) technology allows its extreme-density storage systems to power down disk drives to an idle state to conserve energy yet provide near-instantaneous access to data.

Conventional fibre channel storage consumes 187KW of energy per petabyte. In contrast, a Nexsan system in Level 3 AutoMAID idle mode consumes just 6KW. A conventional raid system with 1PB of online storage consumes 25 times more power than 1PB of Nexsan SATABeast(TM) at Level 3 AutoMAID.

"With the explosive growth in rich media and its substantial long-term access and storage requirements, power saving storage has become a necessity," said Gary Watson, Chief Technology Officer at Nexsan. "From product inception, we understood that power savings was critical to managing the cost of long-term storage. Every Nexsan storage solution is designed to help our customers reduce their power needs and save money while ensuring they have the most advanced and reliable storage solution available today."

This benefit is a major differentiator with Nexsan's SATABoy(TM), SATABeast(TM) and Assureon(TM) systems which have been adopted by customers such as Sky, MPC (Moving Picture Company), RAI, Cinecittà and many others for storing on-line data, HDTV, digital film and video, nearline storage, security, audio, disk-based backup (D2D) and disaster recovery.

The SATABoy series provides best-in-class performance, features and functionality in a low-profile, cost-correct expandable package. The SATABeast(TM) provides enormous capacity and unlimited flexibility in an advanced SATA disk-based solution. Unquestioned reliability results from utilising redundancy and the latest advancements in RAID technology, while Nexsan's Extreme Intelligence Software, NexSCAN(TM), provides sophisticated centralised management and monitoring of all Nexsan subsystems.

The IBC Exhibition features more than 800 companies showcasing the latest technology and foremost business ideas in broadcasting and media. As the leading international event for professionals involved in the creation, management and delivery of entertainment content, IBC attracts over 40,000 attendees from more than 120 different countries.
