Since the stage two of the Jansen potash project in Saskatchewan, Canada was approved by BHP in October 2023, the team at Jansen is already advancing construction and awarding major contracts.

We recently announced the award to Sandvik for the Jansen stage two underground mining system, with a contract valued at approximately C$280 million for the delivery of two mining systems. This announcement is a continuation of our partnership with Sandvik, who collaborated with us to develop fit-for-purpose underground mining equipment and automation solution - comprised of large, automated borers and extendable belt conveyances. Collaboration on the system took place over several years with the prototype being piloted in underground salt mines in Germany. These systems will play a crucial role in the efficient extraction of potash, with each system providing the equivalent output of three systems at other mines, giving Jansen its competitive edge.

Simon Thomas, Vice President Projects Potash at BHP, commented on the continued partnership: "This is the next step in our long-term partnership and collaboration with Sandvik. The Jansen potash project has the potential to be the largest potash-producing mine in the world, providing a rich source of potassium, a key ingredient for fertilizer, and supporting global food production.
