For the third consecutive year and its first as a Platinum sponsor, BHP participated in Exposibram, one of the largest mining industry events in Latin America, held in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

Organised by the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), Exposibram brings together the sector's key players to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of mining in Brazil.

With around 70,000 participants attending this year, the 2024 event was heavily focused on the essential role of mining in the daily lives of Brazilians, its importance to the economy and the country's sustainable long-term development.

Representatives from BHP actively participated in Exposibram’s extensive program, with a number of its leaders from across the Americas taking part in strategic panels. The company also supported the Austrade stand at Exposibram and hosted a delegation bringing together Australian businesses operating in and contributing to Brazil.

Carla Wilson, BHP’s General Manager Brazil, participated in a panel on the path ahead for diversity, equity and inclusion with a specific focus on how the industry will advance by 2030.

"For BHP, it’s not just about bringing a diverse range of people into the organisation, we also want them to stay," said Carla, who also outlined the importance of active leadership in promoting gender equality and celebrated BHP's achievement of gender balance in the Americas.

Juliana Esper, Manager Health, Safety and Environment for BHP’s non-operated joint ventures, joined a panel on psychological safety, reinforcing BHP's firm belief that "our greatest asset is our people". Juliana encouraged reflection on the importance of creating a safe and welcoming work environment for everyone.

In a panel that addressed global food security, Karina Gistelinck, Asset President Potash, highlighted the importance of potash for the nutrient-rich fertilisers our growing population needs.

"Brazil will be a core market for the potash BHP will produce at Jansen once operations commence in 2026 and we’re fortunate to have strong partnerships with future customers and other stakeholders here already.”

Fernanda Lavarello, Head of Corporate Affairs Brazil, spoke at a panel on the mining industry’s reputation, highlighting the central role of social responsibility in the company's decision-making.

"Social value guides all of the decisions we make at BHP, along with a commitment to always do what’s right" she said. “This includes our commitment to ensure full and fair reparation for the people, communities and environment affected by Samarco’s Fundão dam failure in 2015”,

BHP chose Exposibram as the stage to launch its new brand campaign in Brazil, reinforcing its commitment to the future facing commodities the world needs now – including copper for decarbonisation and potash for global food security.
